One of those days . . .

So Beth and I went to Gloria's on Sunday for a lovely meal with her parents. With Gloria's wonderful mix of El Salvador/Texmex food there is a lot of delicious dishes to choose from. To start off, we each had a tamale that are uniquely cooked in a banana leaf. Very tender and succulent.

Beth's mom ordered some kind of fish/seafood stew. She said it was very salty with fishy overtones. Mmmm. Beth's dad ordered the sour cream chicken enchiladas. He had no complaints (except towards the waitress with whom we all were a little annoyed). I chose a grilled chicken dish that came with an Beef Enchilada. I liked it and I ate it. And Beth lived on the wild side and ordered the mesquite grilled quail. She said it tasted just like chicken.

The only problem with Bethany's meal went like this:

The waitress brought out the food and divvied out the dishes. As the waitress set down the plate with the quail piled high and their little wing bones sticking out everywhere, Bethany's face dropped into a dissatisfied and confused expression. The waitress left and I asked her,

"What's wrong?"

Her reply surprised us all:

"I thought quail was a kind of fish!"

I guess it was just one of those days. We gave her a hard time about it with a lot of laughter. After she switched modes from fish to fowl she enjoyed the quail. Later she said, "I know quail is a bird, why did I think it was fish?!" It was just one of those days.
